Room 7 -8
Living Kaurna Cultural Centre

On the 2nd of June rooms 7 and 8 went on an excursion to the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre for Reconciliation Week. We participated in a smoking ceremony and after the smoking ceremony we put on ochre to protect us from bad spirits. We were
Welcomed to Country by Uncle Belly.
We went for a walk and we learnt that there was a shut up tree where if you were to put the shut up trees sap on your teeth it would stick your mouth shut and you wouldn’t be able to speak. The Aboriginal people used this to teach their children a lesson. We also learnt about bush tucker and the Fairford house. We made boomerangs with Tobias and we used paint pens to
paint a story on our boomerangs, then we went to the little oval and threw our boomerangs one at a time.
We also looked at the Warraparringa River before saying thank you and leaving. We also looked at a 500 year tree that is the mother tree of all the other trees around it.
Then we went back onto the bus to watch Garfield on the
way back to school.
When we got back to school we wrote about our boomerang stories on padlet.

your child will love to learn
